Enigma2 is a Linux-based operating system used on many satellite and cable receivers. If you already have one of these receivers, you can add IPTV channels to it without buying a new device. The Enigma2 IPTV setup is a little more technical than installing an app, because it uses a terminal connection from a computer, but it only involves one command.

This guide explains what you need, how to connect to your receiver with PuTTY and how to add your M3U playlist line. It applies to Enigma2 and other Linux receivers wherever you are.

What You Need

  • An Enigma2 or Linux-based receiver, connected to your TV and your home network.
  • A Windows computer on the same network, with the free PuTTY software installed.
  • The IP address of your receiver.
  • The login details for your receiver, which depend on the image installed on it.
  • Your M3U playlist line from your purchase confirmation email.

Step 1: Find Your Receiver’s IP Address

Your computer needs the receiver’s address on your home network. On most Enigma2 receivers, you can find it in the network settings menu, often under Menu > Setup > System > Network, or a similar path depending on the image. Write down the number, which looks something like 192.168.1.50.

You can also find connected devices and their addresses in your router’s admin page.

Step 2: Connect with PuTTY

  1. Open PuTTY on your computer.
  2. In the Host Name field, enter your receiver’s IP address.
  3. Choose the connection type supported by your receiver, then select Open.
  4. When the terminal window opens, log in with your receiver’s username and password.

If you are not sure of your receiver’s login details, check the documentation for the image installed on it.

Take your time with this step. Once you are logged in, the terminal shows a prompt where you can type or paste commands. Nothing happens on the receiver until you press Enter, so you can check the command carefully before running it.

Step 3: Run the Playlist Command

Copy the command below, and replace YOUR_M3U_LINK with the official playlist line from your purchase confirmation email. Keep the single quotes around the link.

wget -O /etc/enigma2/iptv.db 'YOUR_M3U_LINK' && chmod 755 /etc/enigma2/iptv.db

Only run a command that comes from your provider.

  1. Paste the edited command into the PuTTY window. In PuTTY, a right-click pastes text.
  2. Press Enter and wait for the download to finish.
  3. Check that no error message appears.

Step 4: Restart and Find Your Channels

Restart the receiver so it picks up the new playlist. Once it is back on, open your channel list and look for the new IPTV channels.

The exact location of the channels depends on your Enigma2 image. If you cannot find them, contact our support team. You can also see the Enigma 2 steps on our installation page.

Tips for Enigma2 Users

  • Connect the receiver with an Ethernet cable if possible.
  • Keep a copy of your edited command in a safe place, in case you need to run it again.
  • Treat your playlist line like a password and do not share it.
  • Make a backup of your receiver settings before making changes, if your image supports it.

If you also use a MAG box in another room, our MAG box setup guide covers that device.

What the Command Does

It helps to understand what you are running on your receiver. The command has two parts, joined by &&, which means the second part only runs if the first one succeeds:

  • wget downloads the playlist from your M3U link and saves it to the file /etc/enigma2/iptv.db on the receiver.
  • chmod changes the permissions of that file so the receiver can read it.

Keeping Your Playlist Up to Date

If your playlist line ever changes, for example after renewing or changing your subscription, run the same command again with the new link and restart the receiver. Keeping your edited command saved in a text file makes this a one-minute job.

Before making any changes, write down your current receiver settings or make a backup, so you can return to them if needed.

Troubleshooting Enigma2 Setup

PuTTY Cannot Connect

Check the IP address, make sure the computer and receiver are on the same network and confirm the connection type your receiver supports.

The Command Shows an Error

Make sure you replaced YOUR_M3U_LINK with your full playlist line and kept the single quotes around it. Check that the line was copied completely, with nothing cut off at the end.

No New Channels Appear

Restart the receiver fully. If the channels still do not appear, contact our support team with the name of your receiver and its image.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an M3U playlist line?

It is a single web address that points to your channel playlist. Our Xtream Codes login guide explains how it compares with other login methods.

Do I need a Windows computer?

This guide uses PuTTY, which runs on Windows. You need a computer on the same network to connect to the receiver.

Will this remove my existing channels?

The command writes the playlist to its own file. If you are unsure about your receiver’s setup, back up your settings first.

Can I use the same playlist line on another device?

Your playlist line belongs to your subscription. Check your subscription terms for how many devices can stream at the same time before using it elsewhere.

Get IPTV on Your Receiver
