MAG boxes are dedicated set-top boxes built for IPTV. They come with their own remote and a simple menu, and once they are set up, they start straight into your channels without the need for a separate player app. The setup works a little differently from a Fire TV Stick or Smart TV, though, because a MAG box connects through a portal and is identified by its MAC address.
This MAG box IPTV setup guide explains both parts. It covers popular models such as the MAG 250, 254 and 256, and the same approach applies to setting up a MAG box anywhere in the world.
How MAG Box Setup Is Different
With most devices, you log in with a Username, Password and Server URL. A MAG box does not use those. Instead:
- Your MAG box has a unique MAC address, a code that identifies the device.
- You send that MAC address to us so the service can be activated for your box.
- You enter a portal URL in the box settings, which is the address the box connects to.
If you want to compare this with the login method used by apps, our Xtream Codes login guide explains the difference between logins, playlists and portals.
What You Need
- Your MAG box, connected to your TV and powered on.
- An internet connection. An Ethernet cable from your router is the steadiest option for a set-top box.
- The MAG remote.
- The portal URL we send you after your box has been activated.
Step 1: Find Your MAC Address
The MAC address is printed on a sticker on the back or bottom of your MAG box. It is a series of letters and numbers in pairs, usually separated by colons, for example 00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX.
- Turn the box over or look at the back panel for the sticker.
- Find the line labeled MAC.
- Take a clear photo of the sticker with your phone so you do not have to copy it by hand.
Step 2: Send Us Your MAC Address
Your MAC address is needed for server provisioning, so send it to our support team before you add the portal. You can reach us through the options on our contact page. Include the photo of the sticker and mention that you are setting up a MAG box. We will reply with the portal URL to use.
Step 3: Add the Portal URL
Once you have the portal URL, enter it in the box settings:
- Navigate to Settings > System Settings > Servers.
- Select Portals.
- Under Portal Name, type Aloha4K, and in the Portal URL field, paste the server link we emailed you.
- Press OK, exit the configuration wizard and reboot the box.
Menu names can differ slightly between models and firmware versions. If you do not see the exact option, look for a Portals or Servers section in the system settings.
Step 4: Start Watching
After the reboot, the box connects to the portal and loads your channel list. Take a moment to browse the channel groups and open the TV guide.
Our walkthrough on how to use the IPTV EPG TV guide explains favorites, groups and guide times, and the same ideas apply on a MAG box.
Tips for Everyday Use
- Use a wired Ethernet connection if your router is nearby.
- Place the box where the remote has a clear line of sight to the front panel.
- Reboot the box from time to time to keep it responsive.
- Keep the MAC address photo with your login email in case you need help later.
Getting Around on a MAG Box
Once the portal has loaded, the MAG remote becomes your main tool. Button labels vary a little between models, but these habits help on most boxes:
- Use the arrow keys and OK button to move through channel groups and open channels.
- Look for a dedicated guide or EPG button, or open the guide from the portal menu.
- Use the Back or Exit button to step back one screen at a time.
- Add channels you watch often to favorites, if the portal offers it, so they are easier to reach.
If you share the box with family, take a few minutes to show everyone where the guide and favorites are.
Troubleshooting MAG Box Setup
The Portal Does Not Load
Check that you sent the correct MAC address and that you received confirmation before adding the portal. Then compare the portal URL you entered with the one in our email, character by character.
The Box Shows a Network Error
Check the cable or Wi-Fi connection in the network settings, restart your router and then reboot the box.
The Wrong Portal Opens
If you have used other portals before, open the Portals menu and make sure the Aloha4K portal is the one selected.
The MAG steps are also listed on our installation page.

Which MAG models does this guide cover?
The steps apply to common models such as the MAG 250, 254 and 256. Menu names can vary slightly between models and firmware.
What happens if I replace my MAG box?
