Most people start with live TV, but IPTV movies and series can be just as useful on a quiet evening. Instead of following a schedule, video on demand, usually shortened to VOD, lets you pick something and start watching right away. Aloha4K plans list MAXive VOD + Premium Series among their features.
This guide shows how to find and enjoy on-demand content on a Fire TV Stick or Smart TV, including browsing, searching, resuming and changing subtitles or audio. The same ideas apply to watching on-demand IPTV wherever you are.
Where to Find Movies and Series
Most IPTV player apps split their home screen into sections. The names can vary, but you will usually see something like:
- Live TV: the channels you watch on a schedule, with the TV guide.
- Movies or VOD: single titles you can start at any time.
- Series: shows organized by season and episode.
Movies and series are usually grouped into categories, which makes browsing on a TV remote much easier than scrolling through one long list.
The first time you open these sections, the app may take a moment to load the lists. After that, browsing is usually quicker. If you switch between live TV and on-demand content often, learning where each section sits on the home screen saves a lot of clicks.
How to Start a Movie
- Open your player app and go to the Movies or VOD section.
- Choose a category to narrow the list.
- Highlight a title to see its details, if the app shows them.
- Select Play to start watching.
How to Watch a Series
- Open the Series section and choose a category.
- Select the show you want.
- Pick a season, then an episode.
- Select Play. Many apps continue to the next episode or let you choose it from the episode list.
Use Search to Save Time
If you already know what you want to watch, search is far quicker than browsing. Look for a magnifying glass icon in the Movies or Series section. Typing with a TV remote is slow, so a phone keyboard helps a lot.
On a Fire TV Stick, the free Amazon Fire TV app works as a keyboard. Our Fire TV Stick remote tips cover this and other shortcuts.
Playback Controls
Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward
With on-demand content, the Play/Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward buttons on your remote usually work as you would expect. On a Smart TV remote without dedicated buttons, pressing Select or the arrow keys often brings up an on-screen control bar.
Resume Where You Left Off
Many player apps remember your place in a movie or episode and offer to resume when you return. Some also show a Continue Watching row.
Subtitles and Audio Tracks
If a title includes subtitles or more than one audio track, you can usually change them from the playback options. Press the Menu or Options button during playback and look for Subtitles or Audio. Available options depend on the title.
Get the Best Picture and Sound
- Choose a movie or cinema picture mode on your TV for evening viewing.
- Turn off motion smoothing for films if the picture looks unnaturally smooth.
- If you use a Fire TV Stick 4K, set Dynamic Range to Adaptive, as covered in our Fire TV Stick 4K settings guide.
- Use a soundbar if you have one, and try its movie or dialogue mode.
Plan a Movie Night
A little preparation turns a random evening into a proper movie night:
- Browse the Movies section earlier in the day and note a few titles everyone might enjoy.
- Check whether the titles have the subtitles or audio track you want.
- Dim the lights and switch the TV to a movie or cinema picture mode.
- Turn on your soundbar and set a comfortable volume before you press Play.
- Keep the remote and phone keyboard nearby in case you want to search for something else.
Keeping Track of Series
If you are working through a series, note the season and episode you finished, especially if you watch on more than one device. Not every app shares your progress between devices, so a quick note saves you from hunting for your place later.
Troubleshooting VOD
The Movies or Series Section Is Empty
Give the app a minute after logging in, then look for a refresh or update option in its settings. Restarting the app also helps it reload the lists.
A Title Will Not Play
Try another title to see whether the problem is with one item or with all of them. If only one title fails, let our support team know which one.
No Subtitles Appear
Not every title includes subtitles. Check the playback options, and make sure subtitles are switched on in the app settings if the app has such an option.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between live TV and VOD?
Live TV follows a schedule, like traditional television. VOD lets you choose a movie or episode and start it whenever you want.
Can I pause a live channel the same way as a movie?
Playback controls are designed for on-demand content. What you can do on live channels depends on the app.
Does VOD work on Smart TVs too?
Yes. Movies and series are part of the player app, so they are available on supported Smart TVs as well. See our Samsung Smart TV guide for setup.
Why can I not find a title I searched for?
Check the spelling and try a shorter search, such as one distinctive word from the title. Search results depend on what is available in the app at the time.
